Kamal Faghi

Kamal Faghi ( May 20, 1976 – October 12, 2022)

Kamal Faghi was born on May 20, 1976, in Bukan. He was an engineer and technician at the Bonab Thermal Power Plant. Married and devoted to his family, he was the father of two children, Nima and Hiwa.
When the nationwide protests of 2022 began in Iran, Kamal stood alongside the people demanding freedom and justice. On the evening of October 12, 2022, protests spread through the neighborhoods of Mirabad, Hessar, Abuzar, and Dar Harmi in Bukan. Demonstrators filled the streets, chanting slogans such as “Woman, Life, Freedom” and “Death to the Dictator.”
That night, Kamal was on the rooftop of his home, supporting the protesters and chanting with them. During the unrest, security forces opened direct fire toward civilians. Kamal was targeted and struck by shotgun pellets in his eyes, head, neck, face, mouth, and abdomen. Reports indicate that more than thirty pellets hit his face and upper body. Severely wounded and covered in blood, he collapsed on the rooftop.
His family rushed him to Gholipour Hospital in Bukan, hoping to save his life. However, according to witnesses, the hospital was heavily occupied by security agents, and medical staff were prevented from properly admitting and treating him in time.
Kamal Faghi later died from the severity of his injuries. The official forensic report listed the causes of death as acute respiratory failure, spinal cord trauma to the neck, and severe cervical vertebrae dislocation caused by the impact of multiple hard projectiles.
His body was buried in Bukan Cemetery under heavy security presence, while his family reportedly faced intimidation and threats from government forces during the funeral.
Kamal Faghi became one of the many victims of the 2022 protests in Iran — a man who lost his life simply for standing with his people and raising his voice for freedom.
