Ebrahim Mirzaei

Ebrahim Mirzaei (October 26, 1980 – October 26, 2022)

Ebrahim Mirzaei, a 42-year-old resident of Sanandaj originally from the village of Gazgazareh in Dehgolan County, was among those affected during the nationwide protests that followed the death of Jina (Mahsa) Amini.
On the evening of October 26, 2022, widespread protests took place across many districts of Sanandaj. According to reports, security forces used tear gas against demonstrators in the Abbas Abad intersection area. During the crackdown, Ebrahim Mirzaei was reportedly exposed to tear gas and suffered severe respiratory distress. After returning to his home, his condition deteriorated, and he died shortly afterward. Reports indicate that news of his death remained undisclosed for four days before it was later documented by human rights sources.
The same night, three other citizens—Mohammad Shariati, Keyvan Darvishi, and Mohammad Lotfollahi—were reportedly killed by direct gunfire from government forces during the protests in Sanandaj. In addition, 16-year-old Sarina Saeidi, who had sustained severe head injuries and a brain hemorrhage after being struck multiple times with batons, died the following day at Towhid Hospital in Sanandaj.
Several months later, on July 24, 2023, a new wave of arrests targeting civil society activists was reported in Sanandaj. According to human rights reports, Masoud Mirzaei, a 53-year-old civil activist and brother of Ebrahim Mirzaei, was arrested by government forces at a police checkpoint on the road from Kermanshah to Sanandaj. Sources stated that he suffered from diabetes and had recently undergone heart surgery, yet was allegedly denied access to his medication after his arrest.
At the same time, Ebrahim Mirzaei, described in some reports as a civil activist, was also arrested at his workplace. On the same day, Hozan Babakarmi, another civil and cultural activist from Sanandaj, was reportedly arrested at his workplace without the presentation of a judicial warrant and transferred to an undisclosed location.
At the time these reports were published, no reliable information was available regarding the whereabouts, conditions of detention, or legal status of the three detained activists. Their arrests raised concerns among family members and human rights advocates about their safety, health, and treatment in custody.
