Omad Shoush
Omad Shoush (October 05, 1996 – January 8, 2026)
Nezhat, Omad Shoush's mother, recounts that Omad lived in Rudsar and worked as a barista at the Aban Hotel in Chaboksar. When the nationwide protests began in 2022, he traveled to Lahijan to take part in the demonstrations because he had many friends there.
During the 2022 nationwide protests, Omad was arrested once by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran for participating in the demonstrations. Despite this experience, he continued to stand by his convictions.
In 2026, Omad lost his life in Lahijan—the city he had traveled to in order to join his friends and participate in the protests.
Despite this family tragedy, Omad returned to the streets during the protests of January 2026. According to a friend, before joining the demonstrations he said, "This time I'm not going for the protest. I'm going to make real trouble."
On Thursday, January 8, 2026, Omad Shoush was shot by Iranian government forces during protests in Lahijan, Gilan Province. According to reports, he was struck by four bullets fired directly at him and died from his injuries.
Omad's death marked the second time the Shoush family lost a son to Iran's violent suppression of protests. After losing Ali in 2022, their mother, Nezhat, was forced to mourn another son. Two of her five sons have now been killed in connection with the government's crackdown on protesters.
Omad Shoush was considered part of one of Iran's "justice-seeking" families—families who have publicly sought accountability for relatives killed during the protests. His name has been recorded among those killed during the January 2026 demonstrations.
The story of Omad and his brother Ali reflects the suffering of families who have lost more than one loved one during successive waves of protests in Iran. Alongside their grief, many of these families continue to face intimidation, pressure, and harassment from state authorities while seeking truth and justice.
