Mohammadamin Hashemian

Mohammadamin Hashemian (October 26, 1997 – November 3, 2022)

Mohammadamin Hashemian was a 25-year-old Kurdish man from the village of Sahnaleh in Sonqor and Koliai County, Kermanshah Province, Iran. Raised in the foothills of Mount Dalahu, he spent his childhood and youth in his hometown before, like many young people from the region, moving to Karaj in search of better economic opportunities. He settled in Mahdasht, where he managed a workshop called Top Service Alborz while living with his wife and young daughter. Those who knew him described him as a kind, responsible, and compassionate young man.
When the nationwide protests of 2022 began, Mohammadamin joined many other citizens in the demonstrations. Before his death, he had shared a personal reflection on life, writing that human life is brief and that everyone eventually becomes nothing more than a memory. For that reason, he believed there was no value in greed, hypocrisy, lying, flattery, or hurting others. Instead, he urged people to leave behind a legacy worthy of remembrance.
On Thursday, November 3, 2022, marking the fortieth day after the death of Hadis Najafi, groups of mourners and protesters gathered in Karaj and attempted to reach Behesht-e Sakineh Cemetery to commemorate her memory. According to reports published by human rights organizations, security forces blocked the roads leading to the cemetery and used live ammunition in an effort to disperse the crowd.
According to those reports, Mohammadamin Hashemian was fatally shot during the protests. Human rights sources, including Hengaw, reported that he was killed by direct gunfire from government security forces, while Iranian authorities presented a different account of the incident.
Human rights organizations further reported that, following his death, Mohammadamin's family was pressured to publicly state that he had died by suicide. These allegations have been documented by those organizations as part of a broader pattern of pressure reportedly exerted on the families of individuals who died during the 2022 protests.
Mohammadamin Hashemian was 25 years old when he lost his life. From his birthplace in Sonqor to the life he built in Karaj with his family, he had worked to create a better future. After his death, his reflections on integrity, humanity, and leaving behind a worthy legacy gained renewed attention, becoming an enduring part of the story told about his life.
